Are You Washed in the Blood?
“blood of the lamb”
-Jesus was slaughtered as a lamb. There are many references in the OT to the killing of a lamb.
1 Peter 1:18-19
. . . it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
“cleansing”
-In the OT there are many references to cleansing. Uncleanliness is an abomination.
“white as snow”
Psalm 51:1-2, 7
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
“rest”
Hebrews 4:1, 11
. . . the promise of entering his rest still stands . . . Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest.
“bridegroom”
Matthew 25:1-13
The Parable of the Ten Virgins
“mansions”
John 14:2
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
“unclean”
Hebrews 9:11-14
The Blood of Christ
When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

I feel that I'm not getting this blogging thing down yet. I guess I need to kind of chronicle each day if possible, rather than wait for a "big event". There is so much disorder in my mind; I guess I feel my blog will be chaotic unless I get my thoughts organized first. :/
Yesterday Bill and I went up to OHSU where he got a bone marrow biopsy done. This is his second one, but I wasn't present at the first. He says this time was a little better, but I definitely did not enjoy it. They numbed a spot on his back with novacaine (twice), and then inserted a thick metal rod that served as somewhat of a chisel. The doctor used all his strength to insert it in the hip bone and extract some marrow for testing. It seemed harsh to me, but Bill's feeling pretty good today. Hopefully this will show more signs of remission. :)

(Last week's song study)
Amazing Grace
“It is by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:5
John Newton, the writer of “Amazing Grace,” was spiritually influenced by his mother at a young age. He walked away from the tenets of her faith as a young man, and eventually became captain of a slave-trading ship. However, on March 9, 1748 he experienced a literal storm in his life. He later wrote, “That . . . is a day much remembered . . . the Lord came from on high and delivered me out of deep waters.” From that point on his life began to change. The song “Amazing Grace” came from a sermon Newton wrote in 1779, which was based on 1 Chronicles 17:16-17, a prayer of King David in which he marvels at God’s choosing him and his house. In 2006 an additional chorus was written by Chris Tomlin and Louie Giglio.
“My chains are gone, I’ve been set free, My God, my Savior has ransomed me.
And like a flood His mercy reigns, Unending love, Amazing Grace.”
Ephesians 2:4-5 -- “Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”

I plan and lead worship at my church on Sunday mornings. One of my new weekly goals is to do a song study, usually on a song we'll be singing that week. This week I chose "Your Name" by Paul Baloche. We actually haven't sang this yet, but I'll probably introduce it soon.
Your Name - Paul Baloche
“glorify Your name”
Psalm 86:12 - I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.
"strong tower”
<>
Psalm 61:3-4 - For you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the foe. I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings.
Proverbs 18:10 - The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.
“strong and mighty”
Psalm 24:8 - Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
“shelter”<>
Psalm 91:1-2 - He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
Isaiah 25:4 - You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless is like a storm driving against a wall
“nations sing”<>
Psalm 67 - May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations. May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth. May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you
“power to save”
Psalm 20:6 - Now I know that the LORD saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand.
Psalm 106:8 - Yet he saved them for his name's sake, to make his mighty power known.
1 Corinthians 1:18 - For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
“Your name”
Used many times in the following contexts: confess, make a dwelling for, praise, is good, fear, glorify, power of, doing works in, declare
Exodus 20:7 - "You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.”
Deuteronomy 28:58 - . . . revere this glorious and awesome name—the LORD your God.
1 Kings 8:43 - . . . that all the peoples of the earth may know your name and fear you.
Psalm 9:2 - I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
Psalm 135:13 - Your name, O LORD, endures forever
Jeremiah 10:6 - No one is like you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.
Your Name - Paul Baloche

Miso Soup
So yesterday Jack and I had a very interesting conversation while I was driving. it started with bridges and ended with calling Jesus to ask him to make us Miso Soup. It went something like this:
Jack: Are we going over a bridge Mom?
Me: Yes.
J: On top of the fishees?
M: Yep!
J: Do you like fishes?
M: I like to eat them.
J: Daddy does too. I don't like eating fishes.
M: You've eaten them before. You've even eaten Sushi with raw fish.
J: Sushi soup?
M: That's Miso Soup you like. We get it at the Sushi restaurant.
J: What's in it?
M: Tofu, Miso, Seaweed, some other stuff. I'm not exactly sure how to make it.
J: Maybe Santa knows.
M: Santa doesn't know everything. God knows everything, though.
J: Does she know how to make Miso Soup?
M: (laughing) I think so.
J: Does Jesus know how to make Miso Soup? Can we call him?
And I went on to talk about prayer and such. It is quite a challenging to explain theology to him these days.
Another very funny thing he said the other day . . .
I was trying to talk to him (OK-- probably lecturing), and he wanted to me to stop. He finally said, with much frustration, "Mom, shush out!" (Of course, meaning to say "Shush Up!") :)
One more funny. We were reading a book called "The Things Birds Eat". The first picture was a bird eating a worm. Jack's comment was, "that's disturbing."

Eggtoast and Other things
This morning I had "eggtoast" for breakfast. Yes-- "eggtoast". This is a fried egg on toast. Jack shared some with his Dad one morning, and later asked me to make him some. :) This is his newest "Jackism".
We went to the library for storytime this morning. It's a great program, but I was a little upset last month. On December 18th the first story was about Hannukah. The second story was about Kwaanza. The following stories were about Christmas bears, santa, etc. What's missing here? The actual origin of Christmas. I didn't expect that from them in the first place, however, if they included other religious and cultural holidays I think it's fair to expect some equal time for the actual Christmas holiday to be represented. Just sayin' . . .
Sam's newest words are "waffle", "yes" and "home". All in the last few days! Ok-- and he just said "show"! It's exciting for a parent. :) We get to observe as they grow into little people. It's quite amazing.

An Afternoon at the Movies
I took my 2-year-old son Jack to see "The Tale of Despereaux" at the theater today. It was very good. I enjoyed it a lot, and he seemed to as well. He definitely didn't get bored. I think that was his third visit to the theater. As my husband would say "he got all 'hopped up' on candy and popcorn." So, needless to say he was a little difficult afterwards. He told his Dad, "I'm having issues. I think I need some ice cream." A sad reflection on his parents. :/
